Saratoga Retirement Community

When you’re planning the next chapter of your life — whether downsizing, aging in place, or simply looking for a community with long-term peace of mind — few places in Silicon Valley offer the stability, full continuum of care, and lifestyle quality of Saratoga Retirement Community. Nestled on a sprawling 37-acre campus at 14500 Fruitvale Avenue in Saratoga, CA, SRC is a not-for-profit, life-plan community that combines independent living residences, assisted living, memory support, skilled nursing, and a rich set of amenities and services that support wellness, social connection, and dignity.

From its serene natural setting near the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains, to its vibrant social offerings, SRC is designed to deliver a living experience that’s both luxurious and practical — with the flexibility to adapt as needs evolve. As someone who works closely with older homeowners and their families, I see SRC as a rare gem: a place where continuity of care, real community, and long-term value come together.

A Full Continuum of Care: Life Plan, Not Just “One-and-Done”

What makes SRC especially compelling is the breadth of care under one roof — or rather, scattered gracefully across a verdant, garden-like campus. This gives residents and their families the assurance that they’re not just “moving into a retirement home,” but joining a community built for all stages of aging.

Independent Living: Freedom, Comfort & Peace of Mind

If you’re active, healthy, and want maintenance-free living, SRC offers independent residences in cottages or apartments that blend comfort with elegance. Whether you choose a standalone cottage surrounded by native flora or a mission-style manor unit, the design allows for stylish, low-maintenance living.

Assisted Living: Support When You Need It

When everyday tasks become burdensome, SRC’s assisted living offers help with bathing, dressing, medication management, personal laundry, safety checks, escorts to meals and activities — all delivered by licensed vocational nurses and certified nursing assistants, available 24/7. On-site therapy (physical, occupational, speech), regular safety monitoring, and a full-service community layout make this a high-quality alternative to home care.

Memory Support & Skilled Nursing: For Later-Stage Needs

For those facing dementia or cognitive decline, SRC provides licensed memory-support services in secure, supportive environments. And when more intensive care is required, their skilled nursing health-center is fully licensed as a long-term care facility (SNF), with 94 licensed beds — giving families peace knowing a trusted community remains an option.

This “step-up, stay in place” model is especially appealing: you don’t have to uproot your loved one again if needs change. SRC becomes home for life.

Resort-Like Amenities & Lifestyle — Because Retirement Should Feel Good

Living at SRC isn’t about giving up, it’s about gaining — gaining time, community, convenience, and experiences. Their amenities read like a resort catalog. Imagine starting your day with a dip in the indoor pool, then art class, a walk through landscaped gardens, followed by lunch with friends, an afternoon woodworking session, and ending with bocce ball or wine tasting. That’s everyday life at SRC.

Amenities include:

  • Indoor pool & spa
  • Fitness and aquatic center
  • Two dining rooms + restaurant-style meals
  • Private wine-tasting room
  • Billiards and ping-pong room
  • Art studio, woodworking shop, model-train room
  • Hair salon, library, resident business center
  • Bocce ball court, koi pond oasis, English rose garden, walking paths & fitness trails

Social and cultural life is vibrant too — from group meals and social outings to arts, educational programs, and on-site events. For many, this level of engagement and comfort becomes a rejuvenating next chapter rather than a compromise.

Location & Lifestyle: Balance of Nature, Culture & Bay Area Convenience

Saratoga itself offers a rare mix: a quiet, foothill-adjacent, natural environment — yet close enough to the hustle of Silicon Valley tech hubs, major hospitals, shopping, arts, and cultural destinations. For residents, that translates to easy access to metropolitan amenities while still being able to retreat to a peaceful community surrounded by greenery.

Whether you’re a longtime Bay Area resident or relocating from afar, SRC gives you a base that’s both rooted and connected.

Peace of Mind for Families — And Yourself

With a non-profit model, transparent management, and a long history (including a connection with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows), SRC is built around integrity and mission.

Families frequently tell me how much comfort they find in knowing their loved ones are cared for with dignity, in a community that offers everything from independent living to skilled nursing — all on the same campus. This seamless continuum often alleviates the anxiety of “what comes next,” because SRC is designed to evolve with you.

What to Know: Transparency, Pricing & Considerations

The skilled-nursing wing is licensed as a long-term care facility (SNF) with license number 220000416.

Public long-term care (skilled nursing) daily rates start around $608/day for semi-private suites and $811/day for private suites. For current independent living residents who transition to skilled nursing, the rate begins lower — around $483/day (semi-private) and $655/day (private) — though level-of-care charges may apply.

If you’re evaluating senior living for yourself or a loved one, these pricing structures, combined with the continuum-of-care model, make SRC a strong candidate to consider. It’s especially compelling for those who want one place that can carry them through multiple stages of aging.

Who Benefits Most from Saratoga Retirement Community

SRC is a particularly good fit for:

  • Seniors who value stability and don’t want repeated moves as needs change.
  • Couples where one needs care but the other doesn’t — SRC supports independent living + higher care on-site.
  • Families seeking peace of mind with a trusted, licensed facility offering care, support, amenities, and community.
  • Older adults who want to downsize from homeowner responsibilities but retain dignity, activity, and a high quality of life.
  • People who want a maintenance-free lifestyle without giving up comfort, social connection, and access to full healthcare support.

Why I Recommend SRC — As Your Seasoned Living Strategist

In two decades of working with Bay Area seniors and their families, I’ve seen countless senior-living communities. Very few compare to what Saratoga Retirement Community offers: a genuine life-plan community with breadth of services, depth of amenities, and compassion built into its mission.

For anyone concerned about fluctuating health needs, future-care transitions, or simply wanting peace of mind — SRC offers a compelling solution: one move, lifelong care, and a community that feels like home.

If you or someone you care for values continuity, comfort, dignity, and a full suite of lifestyle options, SRC deserves a top spot on your “must-tour” list.
